Janne Leppens (°Turnhout, 2002) is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist who works with the medium of photography.
From an early age, Janne Leppens was constantly looking for forms of expression and attended art school to do so. Eventually, she decided to switch from classical college to art education. She started studying visual arts in high school when she was fourteen.
Finally, at eighteen, Janne Leppens studied for an academic bachelor’s in Visual Arts - Photography at LUCA School of Arts in Genk. During this study, she also did an international exchange at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. During this period, she developed a style in which she always finds it important to address socially engaged themes. She does this by merging her images into a cohesive narrative. Through art direction, it is important for Janne Leppens to create a series of images with strong storytelling. During her latest projects, she focuses mainly on giving creative opportunities to people who have not yet had them in their lives. Think of projects with disabled people or young people with severe trauma.
Janne Leppens her work has been included in group exhibitions at The Sandbox Rotterdam, De Warande Turnhout, Creative Factory Turnhout, Hofke van Chantraine Oud-Turnhout and C-Mine Genk. She also won the 2020 Turnhout Youth Prize.
